History

Fotohaus Wolf was founded in 1899 at Hutgasse 8 by Bernhard Wolf as a shop for specialist photographic articles. In 1909 it moved to Freie Strasse 4, where the business is still located today. In the 1920s, Bernhard Wolf's sons, Jaques and Alfred Wolf, took over the management of the business. In the mid-1950s, Kurt Bolliger continued to run the shop successfully for another 30 years, until Rolf Hämmerlin took over at the end of the 1980s. With great skill, Rolf mastered the difficult transition into the digital age of photography. In 2019, Adrian Samuel took over Fotohaus Wolf and has continued to run it successfully to this day.
The reason Fotohaus Wolf still exists is not only its age. It is the continuity of expertise, the trust of its customers and the conviction that photography is more than buying a camera. It is a craft, a tool, a memory, a profession and a passion.
More than 125 years after Bernhard Wolf founded the business, Fotohaus Wolf is still what it always wanted to be: a place for people who hold photography close to their hearts.
